Thought Alchemy

I used to think that people were born with immaculate self-confidence and that it was just people who were a bit broken or rubbish, like me, that struggled. Except, of course, it was one of those stories I told myself.

We do that a lot, tell stories. Fill in the gaps. Reconcile and rationalise. It’s what we do as humans, it’s one of the things that sets us apart from every other animal out there. And sad to say, most of the stories we use to fill in the blanks aren’t particularly supportive or compassionate towards ourselves.

Either way, this thought process SUCKS.

Thinking you’re not good enough.
Thinking that things are your fault.
Thinking that if you just worked harder it would be ok.
Thinking that the more you do the more people will like you?

It’s no way to live. Trust me on this one, it was these kinds of thoughts that hurtled me headlong in to overwork, exhaustion, overwhelm and eventually a complete burnout.

Here's what I propose.  Let's spend an hour together this coming Sunday 3rd May at 8pm where we can focus on some of the good practical stuff like:

  • how to identify when we are falling into a negative thought spiral (hint: it usually involves chocolate, an open bottle of wine in the fridge or running away at great speed)

  • why changing your thoughts during negativity or struggle is absolutely imperative and 100% not selfish

  • adapting our behaviours to help support our emotions

  • practical tools to change the negative inner monologue

  • why it’s work and how to make it easy
