Why is perfectionism a problem?
Perfectionism isn’t simply about striving to do your best. It’s about beating yourself up for not being there yet, for all the things you haven’t yet done and for all the things that you couldn’t possibly yet know.
Perfectionists tie up not only their job role and goals with their self worth, but self-flagellate and castigate every step of the way there, and have usually changed the goalposts long before the goal was achieved.
Perfectionism is driven by a lack of respect and care for the person doing everything perfectly. It comes from a place of blame, shame and lack - and the mistaken belief that by walking over the coals we will somehow become worthy.
Is it any wonder that, in the chase of those endless goals, plenty of us burnout?
Inspired by Mental Health Awareness Week’s topic of ‘kindness’, comes the workshop focused on how you can practically apply the concept of kindness to yourself and others to counter perfectionism, and bring about a more healthy, happy and sustainable way of working.
That’s why in this one hour workshop we are going to be talking about:
